Chelsea are planning a move for Leicester City midfielder, Danny Drinkwater, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
Antonio Conte has allowed Nemanja Matic to move to Manchester United to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho for £40m leaving a gap to be filled in the Blues’ midfield.
The Italian has already invested heavily in his squad as he prepares to defend the Premier League title; with Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero joining the club.
His transfer plans are showing no signs of slowing down as Drinkwater has been identified as the perfect replacement for Matic.
A move to Stamford Bridge would see the England international reunite with N’Golo Kante – the duo was a crucial part of Leicester’s title triumph in 2015.
Drinkwater would also add to Chelsea’s homegrown contingency, something which has become more and more valuable with the amount of foreign talent available.
The 27-year-old would not come cheap as he recently signed a new contract at the King Power Stadium and remains one of Craig Shakespeare’s most talented players.
Nevertheless, a move to the reigning champions could prove too hard to turn down following Leicester’s dismal performance last season.
With key-man Riyad Mahrez also expressing his desire to leave, it would be no surprise to see Drinkwater jump at the chance to move to London.
Chelsea are still linked with a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has just one year remaining on his contract, as Conte searches for midfield reinforcements.
Everton’s Ross Barkley has also announced his decision to leave the club with Stamford Bridge on his list of potential destinations.
