Vincent Kompany put in a vintage Kompany performance as the Manchester City titan kept his sheet clean whilst lending a hand up the other end, doubling City’s lead on 58 minutes.
A 3-0 win over Arsenal and a champion of the League Cup for the third time with the Manchester club, Kompany will be looking to make three the magic number come May. With the Premier League title looking like a formality for Pep’s side, it would put him in possession of three title medals, still in the Champions League and with a strong possibility of winning it, there would surely be no sweeter way for Kompany to mark his tenth year at the Etihad than doing the elusive treble.
Kompany moved to Manchester in 2008 as a fresh-faced 22-year-old from Hamburg, he became one of the best defenders in the world, and in doing so has established himself as one of the all-time Premier League greats. His performance in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal was a reminder of how he can be called upon with confidence, of the way he can lead his team to victory, making it almost look easy, he’s battled injuries and a constantly changing landscape at one of the wealthiest clubs around to be a prominent figure in all of their triumphs.
Whatever happens in the rest of this campaign and beyond, Vincent Kompany’s name will never be forgotten at Eastlands.
