Liverpool have joined the race to sign Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez with the Merseyside club ready to offer up to £52m for the Colombian according to the Express and Spanish publication, Don Balon.
Jurgen Klopp is looking for a marquee signing as Liverpool prepare to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.
The Reds are currently locked in negotiations with Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah but are also interested in the Colombian according to reports.
After enjoying a stellar debut season with Monaco, Rodriguez completed a sensational £60m to Madrid following some spectacular performances in the 2014 World Cup with Colombia.
However, the 25-year-old has struggled immensely following his move to Spain.
Rodriguez now finds himself falling down the pecking order at the Bernabeu after Zinedine Zidane excluded the playmaker from his Champions League final squad against Juventus.
With players such as Isco and Marco Asensio both preferred options to the Frenchman, Rodriguez is reportedly ready to leave the club in search of regular game time.
If links to Liverpool are real, the Reds could face competition for his signature from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of the playmaker and is keeping tabs on his situation in Madrid. It is believed that United would be Rodriguez’s preferred destination if he decided to move to England.
Another blow for Liverpool would be that Bayern Munich would also be favoured in a race for his signature if United decided to cool their interest.
