Liverpool are set to move for Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, this summer according to reports in Spain.

The Reds are in prime position to qualify for the Champions League for a second successive season and booked their place in the quarter-finals of this year’s competition with a 5-0 win over Porto.

Jurgen Klopp broke the world record for a defender in January by bringing in Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton for £75m but allowed Philippe Coutinho to leave the club for £140m.

The club are yet to reinvest the Coutinho money and have already sanctioned one summer transfer with Naby Keita joining the club in July for £56m.

Reports suggest Klopp is in the market for further striking reinforcements with Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke the only recognised strikers at the club.

Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi both have uncertain futures at the club after being farmed out on loan this campaign.

Benzema could be shown the exit door at the Bernabeu after scoring just eight goals for Zinedine Zidane’s side this season.

Given the form of Firmino, it’s difficult to see Benzema gaining a starting berth at Anfield and his large price tag, as well as wage demands, make this move seem unlikely.

The 30-year-old retains a strong relationship with Zidane as well as Cristiano Ronaldo meaning the manager’s future could decide the forward’s future.
