Manchester United are set to turn their attention to Monaco midfielder, Fabinho, after a deal to sign Serge Aurier fell through according to Don Balon.
Quoted in the Daily Star, Fabinho has been lined up as the next best option after their move for Paris St. Germain’s Aurier collapsed this week despite reportedly agreeing to personal terms with the Ivorian.
The Brazilian was a key player for Monaco last year as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and were crowned Ligue 1 champions; ending the dominance of PSG in France’s top division.
The 23-year-old usually plays at right-back but spend the majority of last season in midfield meaning he would be an extremely versatile option for Jose Mourinho.
Monaco has already lost many squad members from their title-winning season with Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy leaving for Manchester City as well as Tiemoue Bakayoko departing for Chelsea.
Thomas Lemar and Kylian Mbappe are also expected to leave the club this summer which has intensified rumours that Fabinho could follow them out the exit door.
United is rumoured to be his preferred destination if he left Monaco with the player relishing the prospect of reuniting with Mourinho – the man who gave him his debut during his time with Real Madrid.
The French club would not stand in the way of their prized asset leaving if the Red Devils met their asking price of around £40m.
It is unclear where Fabinho would feature if he completed a move to Old Trafford following the £40m signing of Nemanja Matic, suggesting he would be used primarily at right-back where he would compete with Antonio Valencia for a starting berth.
