Manchester United are set to make former defender, Jonny Evans, their first signing of the January transfer window according to The Mirror.
The Northern Irish international was linked with a big-money move to United’s rivals, Manchester City, in the summer but a move failed to materialise.
Reportedly, Pep Guardiola is still keen to sign the former United defender after missing out on Virgil Van Dijk who instead chose to sign for Liverpool.
However, United expect to beat the Citizens to his signature with West Brom demanding £20m to let their star defender go despite having just 18 months remaining on his current at the Hawthorns.
Alan Pardew is desperate to keep the 30-year-old at the club who have reportedly offered him a contract worth over £100,000-per-week to reject the advances of his former employers.
It’s difficult to see where Evans would fit in given the abundance of talented defenders available to Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils added Victor Lindelof to their ranks in the summer and he joined the likes of Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones who all operate at the centre of the defence.
Nevertheless, a move back to United would seem too hard to turn down given West Brom’s woes this season.
Would Jonny Evans be a good signing for Manchester United?
