Real Madrid are ready to cash in on former Tottenham winger Gareth Bale with the Spanish giants prepared to accept an offer of £85m for the Welshman according to The Daily Mirror.
Manchester United have held a strong interest in Bale in previous transfer windows, and the Red Devils are continuing to monitor his situation in the Spanish capital.
The 28-year-old has not featured for Zinedine Zidane’s side since September following a string of injuries; the latest being a thigh problem while recovering from a calf problem that has haunted him in recent months.
Bale has spent four years in Spain after making a £80m move from Tottenham – racking up 159 appearances and scoring 70 goals in the process as well as lifting one La Liga title and three Champions League crowns.
Chelsea and Tottenham have both flirted with the idea of attempting to lure the Welsh international back to the Premier League, but United are the favourites to land his signature after following him closely in the summer.
Jose Mourinho identified a winger as a prime target but saw a move for Inter Milan winger, Ivan Perisic, fall flat when the two clubs could not agree on an fee for the Croatian.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers of Manchester United’s David de Gea and are expected to make another move to sign the goalkeeper following a failed attempt two years ago.
Zidane could offer Bale in a deal that would see de Gea move the other way but Mourinho is unlikely to allow his star keeper to depart.
Whether Bale would prefer to stay in Spain or agree on a move back to England remains to be seen.
