Morecambe got a step closer to safety today with a goalless draw against in-form Lincoln City at the Globe Arena.
Manager Jim Bentley made four changes to his side with Steve Old, Patrick Brough, Vadaine Oliver and Kevin Ellison all coming into the starting XI.
Lincoln manager Danny Cowley, on the other hand, named an unchanged side following last week’s 3-1 win against rivals Grimsby Town.
In what was a stop-start first half, Lincoln came close nine minutes in when they shocked the Shrimps from a free kick.
With the free kick on the edge of the box, Sam Habergham made a good run on the left and they gave the ball to him and he put in a good ball to Scott Wharton but his effort was cleared off the line by Dean Winnard.
While the Imps dominated much of the first half, chances were few and far between and the only other real chance came on the brink of half-time when Elliott Whitehouse’s shot was poorly handled by Morecambe keeper Barry Roche, but he managed to keep it out.
There were chances at both ends in the second half, and either side could’ve won the game. Ten minutes into the second half, Oliver headed just wide on the end of Michael Rose’s impressive cross.
Moments later, Lincoln came close up the other end when Whitehouse headed wide from a corner despite being unchallenged.
The midfielder then came close again in the 75th minute when his shot went just wide from close range.
Morecambe’s best chance of the game arguably came in the 77th minute when Alex Kenyon’s shot took a deflection off Ellison and hit the crossbar.
The Shrimps managed to hit the crossbar again just three minutes later when Adam McGurk’s free kick curled over the wall and hit the woodwork.
The visitors had the last chance of the game in added time when the ball fell to Lee Frecklington in the box and his shot went wide.
The result means Morecambe drop to 19th while Lincoln now sit in 8th.
